I have mentioned before that Nissan knows it can't compete with Honda and Toyota on the fuel-efficiency front, or in the eco-friendly market…so, Nissan is trying to be safer.

Nissan has three more innovative ideas that it will introduce this year.

The Fuga luxury car will have a crash-avoidance system. "When a laser sensornissan.safety.jpg detects that the car is too close to the vehicle ahead,

the system lets up on the accelerator and applies the brakes."

The Infiniti EX, a luxury vehicle destined for the North American market, has "developed a system in which onboard cameras detect when a car has moved out of its lane, such as when a driver falls asleep at the wheel." When it happens, the car applies the brakes in such a way to bring the car back into its lane.

Nissan will install on its Elgrand minivan a system that helps drivers park. Four cameras will relay images to the dashboard and thus reduce minor collisions.

Safety? Eco-friendly?

Why can't we have both?
