Strong earthquake hits Japan followed by mild tsunami
After a major disaster struck last year in Japan, once again a tsunami hit Japan’s north-eastern coastline. The officials said that strong earthquake struck the region which was followed by a mild tsunami.
The earthquake of 6.9 magnitude was measured 6.6 kilometers below the seabed of the northern island of Hokkaido n the Pacific at 6:08pm. The earthquake was then followed by a 20 centimeter tsunami after which the local authorities issued an evacuation warning for the coastal residents before it hit the land.
Later a moderately strong earthquake measuring 5.7 hit Tokyo that left the residents on edge. The high speed bullet trains were halted and even the two runways Tokto’s Narita International Airport were closed after the quake.
Till now no abnormalities are reported especially at the Tokai No 2 nuclear power plant that is situated at the northeast of Tokyo. The plant has been shut for maintenance. There were also no reports of abnormalities at the Tokyo Electric Power Co’s tsunami hit Fukushima Daiichi plants. Click here to view the video.
