Toyota Gives GM, Ford a Chance

Japan's Toyota Motor Corp will give GM and Ford a chance to catch up.

Toyota has decided to delay the introduction of a newer high-mileage hybrid utilizing lithium-ion batteries.

Reason – safety.

Sony has suffered severely because of problems with similar batteries it made for laptop computers.

Toyota's hybrids are already selling very very well….so, what's the rush?lithium-ion%20battery.jpg

The launch of hybrids run with the lithium-ion battery was scheduled to happen between 2008-2010. The company says, car drivers wanting to get

60-70 mph instead of 40-50 mph will have to wait until 2011.

GM and Ford have a reprieve…albeit a small one.

A hybrid version of Toyota's Tundra pickup and Sequoia SUV will also be delayed.

How long do you think it will take GM or Ford to catch up with Toyota in the mass production of the low pollution petrol-electric hybrid vehicles?
