Be Like Mike? – No, Be Like Toyota
Chinese carmakers don't want to 'be like Mike.' They want to be like Toyota.
BYD Auto, Geely are both boasting they will be on top of the automarket in the years to come…25-30 years or so from now…selling 13 million cars worldwide, whatever…We wonder what Toyota will be selling by then.
Problem is, BYD sold just 60,000 cars last year.
Geely sold only 200,000.
Toyota sold more than 9 million cars.
What strikes me is interesting is that Toyota is the new standard – not GM, not FORD, not Chrysler.
Chery, is the first and only Chinese carmaker to hit 1,000,000 cars in production.
Chery is researching the Toyota way :
1. product portfolio,
2. manufacturing,
3. quality control
4. cost-cutting
5. marketing,
6. sales and
7. overseas expansion.
"We will become a Chinese Toyota," Chery declares.
Geely also says: "In the long term, we will have plants in all regions of the world where Toyota has."
Toyota is the new standard.
Toyota looked up to GM some 30 years ago.
I am reminded of something Karl Malone once said…"I used to watch inspirational videos. Now I am one."
I wonder what Toyota used to watch.
How do you like that America?
